Same Old Standards? or Something New?

I’ve been wondering just how many people are out there that really view wine the way I do. I know I am not the majority. That’s okay. I also know that there are “different strokes for different folks”, and so on and so on and scooby dooby doo… anyway, here’s the question: Are you the type of person to find a wine you like and then buy a few cases and drink only that wine for the next couple of months or even years? Or, are you the type of person that likes to always try something new, exciting, and different?

Maybe you are somewhere in the middle. I’m the type of person who loves trying new things all the time, however, if I do find something I really love, I will pick up a few bottles for those “old standard” times or to share with friends to see what they think. So I guess I would say I’m somewhere in the middle, but definitely leaning toward “Something New”. Where do you fit on the scale? I would love to open up a dialogue for all my friends who read this blog because this truly is a fascinating concept to me. Think about it. If you like wine, and you know that there are millions of wines to choose from, what makes you like ONE particular wine, or style more than any others? Of course, we all have our own personal tastes and preferences… but doesn’t knowing that there may be a wine that is even better than the one you are drinking right now make you want to go out and explore? I know I love good Pinot Noir and Brunello di Montalcino… I ‘m not going to go out and drink the same brands all the time, for one because it’s too expensive, and also because I think I might get bored with them.. and I don’t want that! Even if you like a particular style, there can be so many different expressions of individual grape varieties to try!

I believe that some people will be content where they are. You find something you like, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, you stick with it. I want to know what the majority of WINE Drinkers, and BEER Drinkers feel. Can you be passionate about it and still stick with “same old standards”? I also believe that Wine is something special, and keeping an open mind about wine in all it’s glory and obscurity is what it’s all about. Finding out who are the majority, this is the mission. Are you a “Same Old Standard” or a “Something New” type of wine drinker?? Leave your comments, post on Facebook and Twitter… The answers await…
